Sweet Briar College is an all women’s institution located in Virginia. Earlier this week, without the consultation of Faculty/Staff, Alumnae, or Students, the board announced that Sweet Briar would be closing after the Summer Session of this year. Sweet Briar has been around for 114 years.
I go to a women’s college myself and cannot express how important they are. Women’s colleges place huge emphasis on leadership and empowerment for their students.
This is not just a matter of one school closing. Women’s colleges are in danger all over and such a historic institution closing is only a symptom of the issue.
