As someone who went through corporal punishment as a child: I ‘turned out fine’. But it does not mean that I ever deserved this.

The whole “Corporal punishment isn’t bad because I turned out okay” is such a silly argument because for every one of those stories, there’s AT LEAST one in which someone experienced corporal punishment and it lead to trauma and long-lasting negative effects.  So instead of anecdotal arguments, we can look at the science of the issue, which agrees that corporal punishment is largely harmful to child development and how they handle conflict and relationships as an adult.  Your “But it worked for me!” argument doesn’t refute hundreds of studies that overwhelmingly prove using violence to punish children is harmful.

“I turned out fine” is literally the “not all men” of discussions about corporal punishment.

OMG yes

Richard Dawkins literally said the same thing about CSA and rape, and it’s been well addressed elsewhere, if people need any more proof that this is not a good argument. [tw for the link]

Wow yep, I forgot about this.  Despicable.

I got whipped a lot as a child.  All I learned was to be sneaky, lie to everyone, and don’t trust anyone bigger and stronger than me.
