Don’t let your doctor screw you over on HRT

I’m constantly hearing about trans woman getting the wrong dosage for their hormones or even given medication that’s not even indicated for them, and the overwhelming majority of them are coming from informed consent clinics.

Informed consent clinics often work on a sliding scale as to be affordable to everyone, so many of our youngest and poorest trans girls are going to these clinics and getting fucked over because they think the’re at the doctors mercy.

I’ve been working in healthcare for well over a decade now and let me tell you that no matter how intimidating a doctor might seem, if you go into their office well informed and with documentation to back you up they will give you what you ask for almost all of the time, or at least they will strike a reasonable compromise with you.

Doctors are used to their patients doing whatever they tell them to without question and they they tend to think they know everything.  When you go in there and you know more about the proper fucking dosages and exactly what medication does more than they do they fucking hate it.  They’ll want to get rid of you as quickly as possible and they do this by giving you what you need and then telling you go. (Although they will probably grumble about it but who cares; fuck em.)

Don’t be intimidated by them; if you know your shit and you can back it up they’re not going to turn you away and not give you your HRT out of spite. They can’t really. Don’t let anyone stand in the way of your transition, especially the uninformed medical professionals who are supposed to be taking care of you.
