Fuck transmisogynistic casting practices that lead to cis men playing trans women.

I rolled my eyes so hard my lens fell out. no joke.

*sigh* I understand how this can be upsetting, but here’s the thing. This movie is about the first trans person to undergo reassignment surgery. And at first I, too, was upset they didn’t get a trans actor. And Redmayne even STATES IN AN INTERVIEW THAT THERE ARE A BUNCH OF TRANS FEMALE ACTRESSES HE THINKS WOULD NAIL THE PART, but he believes the reason he was cast is because this film takes place in a time before hormones were a thing that the trans community could use, and those casting did not want to risk trans females going off hormones just for the shoot.

Breathe, guys.

This is bullshit and the response above is LITERALLY the most ridiculous and pointless thing I have ever had the displeasure of reading. You clearly have: A. No understanding as to how hrt works. B. No understanding as to what can be achieved via stage makeup. C. No actual concern for or understanding of trans women and our history (there sure as hell were synthetic hormones available at the time, seeing as how Lili was eventually on them).

The very fact that you’d feign concern for women on hrt and use that as an excuse for justifying a man taking the role is just laughable; if that’s the “real” reason they didn’t want to cast a woman undergoing hrt, then why not cast someone who hasn’t started it yet? Or doesn’t want to start it? Or would be willing to delay her taking it throughout the early stages of filming? Jesus Fucking Christ, the lengths y’all will go to in order to further justify the continued exclusion of trans women from telling their own stories and the violent act that is letting men play us is disgusting beyond all comprehension.

Don’t tell me to back off and breathe when men are continuously profiting from stepping on my community, denying us our history, and telling the world that we are just men in dresses.
