hot take i don’t need a reason to not want to be called q*eer. i don’t need to have past trauma with the word or whatever. it’s a slur and i don’t like it and i don’t want to be called by it and people need to stop requiring some sort of Special Reason lmao
Gay is used as a slur too but the community is hell bent on calling everyone that. Let’s not pretend this new thing of going after the word queer isn’t part of a movement to make anyone who isn’t a cus white gay or lesbian feel alienated in their own community. We already reclaimed queer. We shouldn’t be referring to an identity so many people use solely as a slur when it has history of being used an umbrella term many years ago. I find it suspect as fuck that there isn’t some movement for g slur or not letting lesbians reclaim dyke, but for the term typically used by those who don’t confirm to gender norms or whose sexualities go beyond the gender binary. This isn’t me saying that if you don’t use queer then you have to use or be ok with people using it. I just think we should all take some time and wonder why we’re suddenly seeing a rise of people against the term queer.

Have you not heard of the saying “not gay as in happy but queer as in fuck you” or queer as folk? This is a term that has been reclaimed for years and I’m not trying to be antagonistic. I’m worried because this trend of attacking anyone who uses queer and trying to say those people are forcing it on others is on the rise. I’m not saying everyone needs to use the term or even like the term. I just think we should wonder why people are suddenly attacking a term that minorities within our own community use. I don’t think it’s right to up to people who have again and again shown the history of how we reclaimed it and tell them their own identity is a slur. I grew up with gay being the same as bad or stupid and you don’t see me going gay guys and telling them their identity is a slur.

If you don’t personally identify as queer that’s fine but when you throw shit out like people are forcing others to use queer it makes you suspect as hell. I have never seen that happen but I have seen people jumping down the throats of queer people because they said something like the queer community. If you aren’t queer just take it as they aren’t talking about you. We as a community need to critically think about why there’s a sudden hatred for the term queer. Because it’s a new thing I promise you. This will be my last interaction with because you only seem to want to degrade me and my intelligence instead of having an open discussion and I’m not going to take any more of your time.
