“that’s just the way the world works” it literally doesn’t have to be but okay

if anyone ever tells you “humans are just selfish / life is cruel / that’s just how the world is, get over it” be critical of them bc there’s a 75% chance they’re just using that as an excuse for their own shitty behavior so that they don’t have to put an effort into being better, kinder people

We are multiple generations now with no experience with strikes, and I see a lot of confused, well meaning people who want to help but don’t know strike etiquette.

1. Never cross a picket line of striking workers.

2. Never purchase or take free goods from a company who’s workers are striking

3. Honk to support strikers if you drive by a picket line.

4. Join strikers on the picket line even if it’s not your strike, but follow their directions and defer to them while there.

5. Say “that’s great, the strike is working, the company should negotiate with their workers” whenever someone complains about profits lost, inconveniences or other worker-phobic rhetoric. Always turn it back on the company, who has all the power and money.

This is a wild idea but maybe the people who live in them

right-wingers: our ideology is all about freedom and self-ownership =)

left-wingers: cool, lets expand that sentiment by allowing people to control the spaces they occupy and doing away with landlordism

right-wingers:

You guys: let’s take control of the places we live in!

The landlords: buying this place costs 10 times your rent and you become responsible for all the upkeep.

You guys: what? Things I want to own cost money and responsibility???

Crazy idea I know but if everyone pitches in that’s not a problem lol

There is a livestream of Hurricane Florence with the camera aimed at a flag that’s progressively getting SHREDDED by the wind (!), and honestly, if that ain’t some pretty good symbolism for how U.S. policy is affecting climate change, idk

The flag is supposed to be taken down in inclement weather.

@unthrifty–loveliness Somehow I think your comment just adds that much more to the metaphor

y’all need therapy. not girlfriends

Or they need a girlfriend that doesn’t mind listening and trying to help them work through their shit and defeat their fucking demons without asking them to pour out their soul to a stranger who is only listening because it’s their job. That’s the kind of shit you do for the people you love.

your partner is not your therapist. listening to your partner is one thing, but it is not their responsibility to help you work through your shit. that is on you.

one more time.

your partner is not your therapist.

also if I may hop onto this, I REALLY hate when people try to spin “therapists only listen because it’s their job” as a BAD thing. can you imagine if we tried to apply that to literally any other profession?

“why take your phone into the store to get it fixed? they don’t care about you, they’re only doing their job.”

“I don’t want to order a pizza. they’re not making it for me out of the goodness of their hearts, they’re only doing it because it’s their job.”

“why didn’t you just have your girlfriend do that surgery instead of going to a stranger who only saved your life because it’s their job?”

it’s their job because they are better equipped to do it than the other people in your life. jesus christ.

DO. NOT. STORE. YOUR. VALUABLES. IN. THE. DISHWASHER

DO. NOT. STORE. YOUR. VALUABLES. IN. THE. DISHWASHER

DO. NOT. STORE. YOUR. VALUABLES. IN. THE. DISHWASHER

sorry for the non-art post but as hurricane Florence continues slowly through the Carolinas, a hoax that started circulating in 2017 is making rounds again and I’ve already seen it on tumblr even though appliance experts and flooding victims advice NOT to store your important items inside a dishwasher

people spreading this misinformation are prefacing it with ‘’my cousin/aunt/whatever who survived hurricane Katrina said…” so it sounds like sincere advice from a trusted person who actually tried it, and I don’t get WHY they feel the need to lie about something so simple when it could endanger people

A dishwasher isn’t waterproof. It is not designed to keep flooding water OUT.

Dishwashers can also get loose under hurricane winds and end up somewhere outside the house.

People WILL lose their most priced stuff because of this!!
