Homemade Wifi Antennae

Pretty Fly For A Wi-Fi revisits the histories, origins and uses of self-made Wi-Fi antennas. Many of these designs were once shared through home pages that no longer exist and are now only partially accessible through the Internet Archive. It is a combination of pots and pans, dishes and cans through which people from around the world give shape to their collective dream of making an alternative internet.

Most of the antennas result out of the idea of wireless community networks, an idea which emerged shortly after the commercial introduction of Wi-Fi equipment in the early 2000s. These grassroots initiatives aim to build alternative network infrastructures, often on a peer-to-peer basis and without the need for costly wires. Such network infrastructures can be found on rooftops, balconies and windowsills and can cover large distances by broadcasting from building to building.

Unions are trash. Theyll Destroy a whole company for firing a shitty worker.

unions are the reason you aren’t paid 2.50 an hour with steel beams about to bust ya head open shut up lol

Unions are why you have 5 day, 40 hour full-time work weeks. Unions are why they have to pay you in actual dollars instead of “company credits” that you can only spend at the company-owned stores. Unions are why there are fucking fire exits at your place of work. Unions are why it’s not okay for your supermarket ground beef to be any percentage human.

You think your company pays you out of the goodness of their hearts? Or even out of “market pressure?” The “job market” is a myth perpetuated by the capitalists. Corporations would pay you nothing if they could get away with it. And you argue “oh, but if they paid me nothing I’d just go to another one.” Wrong. Because to maximize profits, they all want to pay you nothing. Corporations exist to maximize profits while reducing risk for investors. It’s part of their entire function to find ways to cut costs as much as possible, and that includes finding ways to pay you nothing.

Unions are your defense against that. You think all a union does is strike? If you pay union dues, a lot of that is spent on lobbyists in various governments reminding your lawmakers that you have rights as a living human being that a corporation should not be able to stomp all over. Unions hire lawyers so that if you’re fired for bullshit reasons, the union can stand up for you against your boss. They’re called unions because workers are uniting to pool resources so that they can stand up to these corporate overlords with more money than God. Unions exist because you might not have the words, resources, or time to fight workplace injustices all by yourself. That’s the whole fucking point.

And if a business shuts down because a union is striking, it’s because the business was abusing people and didn’t deserve to be in business anyway. Don’t make excuses for the corporations. They already have trillions of dollars and a couple million lawyers to do that for themselves. They don’t need your help.

All that and also, the idea that unions go to war whenever anything is done to any employee even for good reason, is: a lie.
It’s the same PR scam as the “old lady sued McDonald’s for millions because her coffee was hot” shit.

The *company* is the one that wants you to believe, just because they said so, that the firing was legit and the employee’s fault. But guess what? Doesn’t happen. When someone is fired for refusing or failing to do their job, the other employees are *relieved*, because they’ve been the ones catching the consequences.
Look a bit closer, and you find the union’s strike responds to OUTRAGEOUS moves, either “she got cancer and it would have been a drag on the company to finance her sick leave”, or “we made profit this year but not enough to our liking, so we’re cutting off 10% of the workers to pocket more”…

People who are anti-union are straight up brainwashed.

Labor outnumbers the capitalists. They want us disassembled to make us easier to abuse.

Hi Spider, can I ask for Etsy advice if you have the spoons? I custom ordered printed shoes, and they sent me the wrong ones. They’re offering me 30% back, but I literally can’t use the shoes they sent me. I want to respect that custom printed shoes have a high production and shipping cost, but like, I’m poor too, and it doesn’t seem fair that I’m stuck without the shoes and the money either. May I just ask how you would handle it as a seller? I don’t want to escalate with Etsy if I dont have to

vaspider:

Are these from my shop? Or are they from another shop? IF they’re from my shop, you definitely need to send me that shit because I will get you the right shoes.

If they sent you shoes and those shoes are unwearable, you need to escalate that to Etsy. If they sent you shoes and those shoes are not what you ordered, you need to escalate that to Etsy. We ended up shelling out of our own pocket when the swimsuits were unwearable. It sucks, but. You gotta, if you want to keep a good reputation. Or, frankly, I don’t understand why they’re not going to whoever prints their shoes for them to get proper replacements made, unless they actually make their shoes themselves.

That happens every so often with us – the wrong pair of shoes will get sent to someone, or the shoes will be badly cut or unwearable. Humans make human mistakes! When that happens, we escalate it to our manufacturing partners, and they replace the shoes free of charge to us and our customer as long as we can provide proof that the shoes sent were not as advertised.

Good luck!

Funds for Service Dog Caine

rising–dawn:

Hey guys!

So, recently, I received the great news I’m on track to adopt my service dog candidate, Caine. YAY! I’m very excited. However, I also recently learned that I need to cover his adoption fees, and I just don’t have the money.

Caine will give me my independence. At the moment, due to my disabilities (mainly cPTSD, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and Autism) I am unable to leave the house on my own. I can’t go to college, I can’t get a full time job, and I can’t run errands. I miss being able to go to the library. With Caine, however, I should be able to go in public safely. It is very important to me that I become independent and can move out someday.

I’d really appreciate it if you’d donate, but just reblogging this can help a lot. Thanks so much, guys.

Somebody Returned a Tree Today

plantanarchy:

fuck-customers:

I think we’ve all had that one customer who tries to return something and all you can do is stare at them blankly for a minute when they tell you why they’re returning it. We sell a variety of seasonal things where I work, including these tiny little saplings.

A lady came in today trying to return a peach tree that she must have bought at the beginning of the season, complaining that it wasn’t growing. To give you a better picture… She had to turn it on its side to fit it under the doorframe. When they’re sold, they’re like a foot high, tops. This thing was taller than I am. Clearly, it was growing

I kind of just wanted to take her by the shoulders and be like, “Lady, you bought a tree. These things take time. Did you expect to be picking fruit already?”

My coworker at the service desk was at a loss. We take back a lot of things that I think we probably shouldn’t, but never something that’s been planted in someone’s yard for the last two months. Until now.

So now it’s sitting in the corner of the store… Maybe we’ll keep it and hang little ornaments on it for Christmas or something.

So many folks at the greenhouse try to return plants for RIDICULOUS reasons.

We have a one year warranty on trees & shrubs but don’t guarantee anything else. And the tree/shrub has to be wholly or mostly dead or disfigured, planted in the ground, and not destroyed by natural forces like deer, storms, power equipment, getting run over, etc to be covered under the warranty. The amount of people who go “my tree died” and turns out they LEFT IT IN THE NURSERY POT over winter is…. staggering.

We’re a small business so we accept returns/store credit sometimes on non-warrantied plants just to get customers to go away…

One lady tried to return a bay tree 5 months later because it got bugs. Got store credit. That’s like returning your puppy to the breeder because it gets fleas 5 months later.
